The National History Project is a pilot project conducted
by Illinois State University
and implemented during their summer institute in June
2002. Within the theme of "Doing History," we
guided a coalition of twenty-two high school, community
college, and university faculty members who prepared a
collection of primary sources to use in developing new
approaches in the learning and teaching of introductory
courses in American history.
The institute's curriculum has been organized around
the National Council
for History Education's six Vital
Themes and Narratives -- each one serving as a point
of departure for Doing History. We have made special use
of the Internet as an archive in order to encourage the
use of technology to teach history in the classroom. To
read more about this project, you can visit the About
and History 392: Instructional
Technology for Historians links.
You can view the products of each research team's directly
by visiting Doing History
Research Teams and Report Kits. Most primary source
documents have already been formatted in a printer-friendly
Microsoft Word version for your personal use.
We hope you will find this site informative and easy
to use. Please provide us with positive feedback and constructive
criticism to help us improve the site and our program.
Sincerely,
